Imagina Project - The Machine Week 2

Done some colour keys this week! We needed to set the lighting and mood for the film. I have to apply some colour theories into this. Colour keys are important in setting the tone for the scene; hence I referred back to the colour wheel, selecting colours that are vital for the scene. Using complimentary colours especially in the cave sequence can set a contrast in lighting.

The use of red is to show danger and green signifies willpower and has a sinister touch to it. I have to be careful not to overdo the green though as it would steal audience’s attention. Also, I tried to apply tetrad and triad colours in certain shots.

After that was finished, I decided to move on to doing the concept for the machine’s interior. Zvor is an antagonist in the film. It has a heart inside itself when it has transformed into the final form. The heart is essentially connected to the rest of the machine through wiring.

The machine has 3 forms in total throughout the story. The heart actually resembles the first form. This will allow Zana to recognise the machine’s vital part, therefore leading her to destroy it. As such, it has to be obvious and prominent looking for the audience. The use of blue versus red also accentuates the center part of the machine with the blue being brighter.
